Improve Health

As our transportation infrastructure is modernized, we’ll continue to make our sources of energy cleaner and more efficient. The ‘Electric Avenue’ project will combine solar canopies and an electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure to convert public vehicles to electric vehicles. Our goal is a 50% reduction in transportation emissions by 2030.

Programs Focused on Improving Health

Mobility Optimization Along “Smart Spines”

We’ve been using technology developed at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) to reduce emissions and decrease traffic since 2012. Now we’re focused on expanding that effort and including the most heavily traveled roads in Pittsburgh—”Smart Spines”—to make them safer.

“Electric Avenue”

The City of Pittsburgh aims to reduce transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030. This aggressive goal will require changes in traffic management and a willingness to move away from fossil fuels.

Mobility Through Technology

The City and SmartPGH Consortium members will embark on three pilots related to populations with specific and unique transportation needs. These pilots will demonstrate the intersectionality of Smart City technology with healthcare and human services.
