The majority of Pittsburgh’s public housing is clustered within Smart Spine corridors. We will develop our network of Smart Spines to improve connections between isolated neighborhoods and social and economic hubs. Optimizing transit will give residents reliable access to the job centers of Downtown and Oakland.

The SmartPGH Data Utility

Many public and private sector organizations collect data. The SmartPGH Data Utility offers a platform and a process framework to collectively make decisions, recognize economies of scale, and create standards of interoperability regarding the transmission of data.

Workforce Development Pipeline

We see the Smart City Challenge as a way to deploy transportation technology and train a workforce that can develop and implement this technology. In Pittsburgh, 95,000 workers are employed in the advanced technology industry. This number will continue to grow so SmartPGH is investing in education and training to prepare residents for jobs in this sector.
